Thai Ramen, What’s That? - Ngua Noodle
Where’s the best Ramen in Bangkok? That’s one of the most common thoughts popping up in my head around dinner time. I bring up google maps and search ramen in my area, Ngua Noodle shows up.. Again, in a very random spot, an area not really known for Japanese dining, and the name.. Ngua, งัว …That’s definitely not Japanese.
Ngua Noodle (งัว) serves Thai ramen. Bowls filled with bouncy homemade ramen noodles, in-house smoked beef, soy sauce marinated egg, beef crackling and Thai chili sauce.
The restaurant is open for lunch between 10.30am-2pm, and for dinner between 5pm-8.30pm. Let’s step inside.
Order at the counter
Place your oder at the counter downstairs (and pay upfront). The recommended Smoked Australian Ribeye and Stewed Ribs is the best. If you are hungry add one extra noodles. They will bring the bowl and drinks to the dining room upstairs.
There’s only 5-6 tables in the restaurant, but there’s no need to make a reservation. The bowls are served quite quickly and you’ll be in and out in no time.
The noodles are bouncy and perfectly cooked, the beef smokey and tender, but I would have to say that the broth is what really make me love this bowl. The soup is rich with deep smokey flavor, unlike anything I’ve ever had before.
Price?
Prices are good, but I would suggest to add some extra toppings or noodles if it’s for dinner. Two bowls of ramen and one Coke ended up at a total of 505 Baht, but we did add on extra of everything. Regular price for one person would probably be around 185 Baht.
How to get there?
Ngua Noodle is a bit far from the usual Sukhumvit Japanese dining spots, but still very accessible by MRT. I would recommend a visit if you are spending a Saturday/Sunday at Chatuchak Market or are heading over to Ari.
It’s only an 8 minute walk from Bangsue MRT station, or a 5 minute drive from Ari. There’s parking available in the soi (Rama 6 soi 36) right after the restaurant.
